It was a real pleasure meeting you and I thank you all for the hospitality.

Thank you for coming down to Ross. My boss back home has about 80 head of cattle primarily which are Belted Galloway. He started using CattleMax a couple years ago and has tried to keep up with it as much as his busy schedule allows him. After attending your talk I immediately told him that he could print the registration form for the Belted Galloway Society right off cattlemax and he exclaimed "I better get back on top of my records because that is absolutely amazing." And his wife emailed me a week or so later and told me that all the records have been updated and the registrations for his last calf crop were all printed off cattlemax. Now my next task is to teach him how to palpate for pregnancies, I hope it goes as well as teaching him about CattleMax!

Ben - We've heard some interesting workarounds that our customers use and are glad to be able to offer an official and integrated solution. The cloud offers some tremendous opportunities and we are focusing our efforts there while not completely leaving behind those who do not have Internet connectivity on the ranch.

It's tricky to compare one-time desktop purchase prices to monthly service fees, particularly when the service includes additional features like built-in backups, mobile access, and automatic updates. I can assure you that while our pricing has never been the cheapest, it will be fair and affordable for ranches of all sizes.

Our mobile-optimized version will support both iPhone and Android from the beginning. Any native applications will most likely come on iPhone first based on our customer feedback but Android is right behind. Mobile access will be included with all versions of CattleMax Online at no additional charge.

I'm glad to see a mobile version finally coming, I found a work around but it requires my computer at home to be on. I believe cloud based services are the new trend and am excited to try it. Starting at $15/month sounds a little high compared to the previous versions which figures out to about $10 a month for a small commercial herd, half that if you've had it for two years. You could argue that online backup is essentially included, but that was never a value to me because I could subscribe to Carbonite for the same price range and backup everything on my computer automatically. I hope you plan to develop for Android as well as iPhone.

Great post Terrell!

We learned a bit more about the power of a good domain a few years ago. We thought our ranch name was perfect. Google certainly did not! We eventually changed our web address and the impact on our business was dramatic. While the domain name was only one part of the SEO mystery, it made a huge difference in our rankings.
Thanks for sharing. I think this is important stuff for small breeders and ranchers.

@Hang'n A - The initial release will be online only and we will be adding offline support later on in the Fall or early Spring. When we say Internet-connected, that means both a traditional connection (wireless/wired DSL/dialup/satellite/dish) as well as cellular/3G service. I've been working with our mobile version out in our pastures and it's performed nicely over AT&T 3G service on my iPhone.

@PJ - Thanks for sharing your excitement. It only lets you fill the survey out once and I see where you filled it out earlier this Spring when we listed it in our newsletter. You are on the list.

I am so excited you finally have released this mobile version!! My life will now be so much easier!! I tried to take your survey, but it directed me to the page that thanked me for taking it and I never got the chance? I would love to test it out if there are slots available...how much is it? I have no online storage...am I understanding that is required? Thanx again! PJ

Currently we have CM on the office PC and a second laptop that we take to the chute when working cattle.
If we move to the online systme will we lose access to the records on our laptop if there is not an internet connection available?
